Truly Inspiring Person: Miltiade Delille

Hi everyone! My really good friend Miltiade is planning a missions trip to Haiti! She is is a 22 years
old SUPER determined young woman who was born in Haiti and migrated to the United States at the age of five years old. A graduate from Binghamton University and, a member of the Pi Eta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated she held a Public Relations, Educational Coordinator and Presidential position of the Haitian Student Association at Binghamton University for THREE years.
She chose to take this trip to Haiti because she hasnt been back since she left over seventeen years ago. After the earthquake her goal was to visit and volunteer her time but consistently used being away at school as an excuse.  I am now finished with my undergrad degree; therefore, my goal can now be appropriately materialized. But she can't do it all by herself, shes going to need some help! I got a chance to briefly talk to her about her upcoming project.

Other than returning home after so long, why is it important that you go back to Haiti?
I know exactly what it feels like to have nothing, which is why I enjoy giving back and volunteering to those that are less fortunate than I am. My goal for this trip is to visit Port-au-Prince,Haiti the city where I was born and volunteer at the very school I attended, Sacre Couer (directly translated to Sacred Heart). I will be going out into the local neighborhoods especially Fontamarra, an area in Port-a-Prince with a huge population of poverty. I will be targeting the men, women and children that desperately need food, water, clothing, and basic supplies that they are lacking on a daily basis.

When everything is said and done, what do you hope to receive from such an experience?
I hope to gain a new perspective of life. Throughout the hustle and bustle of my day to day life, it can be easy to become self-absorbed, and fail to realize that there are people that that have it way worse than I do. Helping others makes me feel good and when I am doing something for someone that will put a smile on their faces whether it is temporarily or maybe even permanently that feeling is truly indescribable.

I wish I could go with you! But for those who can't phsically be there, what can we do to help this project?
My goal is raise $2,500 to ship three barrels of supplies/goods/toys to be distributed throughout the week long trip. Additionally, I hope to have enough funds available to purchase meals and water for those in desperate need. I will be accompanied by my two great friends that are equally as committed and passionate about this project. We have purchased our airline tickets and are ready to make a difference. We are asking for a donation of any amount; no donation is too small. I can assure you that each and every dollar raised will be geared towards helping those citizens in Haiti that need it the most. If this trip is a success and I'm sure it will be, I hope to make it a biannual event. I currently have a fundraising campaign where you can donate monetarily if your heart desires.

We have to continue to support each other! Kindness is contagious! If you can give, please do!
Im so proud of you Miltiade, I cant wait to hear about your amazing experience in Haiti.

Love,
Evelyn
