Ice Kream Party!!
Last Saturday, December 27, The Frat Haus hosted their first event, a "Pizza and Ice Kream Party" at The Flat, a bar in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Peter Hadrian and Justin Moore, founders of The Frat Haus asked me to cover the event. The Frat Haus' motto is to "merge hipster party culture with Greek Org party culture. I think The Frat Haus did a damn good job at it! They know how to get people together for a good time!
The event was sponsored by William Wolf Pecan Bourbon Whiskey. Im not a whiskey connoisseur but this whiskey was sooo good! Smooth and sweet without the burn! From 10p to about 11:30p complimentary drinks featuring William Wolf Whiskey were served. Below is a "White Wolf" which is 1 part William Wolf, and 2 Part Irish Cream.
After about an hour, it was time for ice kream! I've never seen so many adults go crazy over ice kream before. I heard a lot of "I want one!" or "Lemme get another ice cream!"
The mission of The Frat Haus is for "Greek Org Life culture and Hipster Socialite culture to merge". Why do you think this is necessary?
Yes! These two distinct social groups represent the bubbling culture of our generation. With myself being a member of Kappa Alpha Psi inc. & Peter Alpha Phi Alpha Inc we have both experienced the social life of the greek world. In addition to that we are affiliated with Sounds Music Group inc. : DIY Record Label/Management Firm ; so we have experienced the socialite/hipster side to life as well. With that being known it made all the sense to be the ones to bridge the two and create a fun and entertaining medium for Hips ands Greeks to harmonize.
It's been a while since your college days. As of today, which category do you think you identify with the most, Greek or Hipster? Why?
Yes those days have come & gone but contain life lessons that built me into the individual I'am today. Honestly its hard for me to place myself in either classification because even during my more prevalent greek years I always was more than just a greek; at one point in time I was a division II athlete. So to answer your question I am one that identifies oneself across many categories.
This was The Frat Haus' first event. Congratulations on your success! It was a really great turn out! How important was it for this event to be a memorable one?
Thanks ! It was the first event under Frat Haus , but we have been apart of many other events ranging from fashion, music & festivals. In regards to this event it was indeed a hit or miss; if the inauguration wasn't as epic as it was we wouldn't have received as much recognition and respect as we did.
The Flat was the perfect venue. Why did you choose that location?
The Flat.....yes we are ourselves fans of the flat and have enjoyed it & have successfully done music shows there in the past. In addition to the prior relationship we also understood the direct market the flat resides in. Its a hotbed for hipsters , tastemakers and socialites so naturally these people would be attracted to the venue so all we had to do was bring the greeks! The centralized location of bushwick was a easy commute for a large number of greeks residing in the area so it was a no brainer in deciding to chose The Flat.
This year's Pizza and Ice Kream Party was sponsored by William Wolf Whiskey. How do you go about finding sponsors?
Yes one of our good friends is the owner of william wolf whiskey so we knew the decor & crowd at the flat would highly enjoy the warm and flavorful spirits of WWW. We connected the dots and presented the event as a mutually beneficial opportunity and the rest was history. Our process for finding sponsors is really unorthodox but proven to have been very successful for us, we tap into the relationships we have and build from there or we find entities that are innovative and make sense for the event. Once we develop our hitlist we reach out and see who we can get on board and execute.
The free pizza and ice cream was definitely a bonus! Why a pizza party?
Thank you! we figured the long time college dorm room favorite would be a pleasant tasty surprise. The cheesy salty taste of the pizza would prove to the perfect pre emblem to the sweet cold chocolatey taste of the "Haagen Daz" bars. The idea of treating the guess to these too classics was the outside the box factor that contributed to the immense turnout.
Throwing an event is easy, but planning one can be a little stressful. Did you have a team? If so, what role did everyone play?
Nothing about a event is easy ; its a calculated risk with alot of external variables that can always effect the outcome. The planning part is fun and creative. Yes there is a machine behind Frat Haus! it is comprised of members from both fraternities as well as the relationships & manpower of Sounds Music Group. We created a very fast and efficient mastermind over the period of a month and was able to conduct group blasts, design logos, target marketing to the specific local groups that were in our demographic , lock in sponsorship , and print shirts for staff.
What kind of response did you receive from your guests? Did you have a favorite moment?
Honestly the responses are worth more than gold, someone even reached out to the venue and wanted to share there enjoyment with the organizers behind the event. Some of the most important responses came from our fellow greeks ; they had nothing but amazing feedback and words of inspiration to share. The most fulfilling feedback was from our closest associates that do events themselves. Last but not least the venue managers and staff had nothing but positive feedback in regards to the organizers of the event and the crowd , they really loved us!
What can we expect to see from The Frat Haus in 2015?
Frat Haus 2015 outlook has events that will continue to create great fun social activities that push the envelope of creativity and entertainment. We have plans for our next event to be late February.
Im so glad Justin and Peter gave me the opportunity to cover such a great event. I cant wait to see what else they've got planned for 2015.

Before I knew it, The Flat was really filling up. People were reunited with familiar faces, the bar was packed the music was bumping. Nothing but great vibes.
I dont know if it was the whiskey, or maybe everyone was excited about the free pizza because as soon as the pizza came, the pizza left. It was on some Oprah type of moment. "You get a slice! You get a slice! You get a slice!" I had to seize the moment when I saw an available slice because there was no saving of anything that night. There was not one slice of pizza left!
After the pizza it was PACKED! Shoulder to shoulder, heat and sweat! I'm not sure how people were getting in because there looked like no way out! The music was bumping by now, drinks were setting in. It was safe to say this was a success.
Of course I had to get mine.
An he had to get his.
After the party I got a chance to ask Justin Moore a few questions about this event. Here's what he had to say:
